Ambassador Scheme

A unique, exciting and free professional development scheme for early careers musicians (aged 21 & above) interested in leading a diverse range of “creative music” projects (improvisation & composition), working with young people (aged 8-18).

This scheme (now in its 13th year), designed to expand NYJC’s collective of creative music leaders, is led by NYJC’s multi award-winning Artistic Director, Issie Barratt, supported by a diverse team of highly acclaimed professional musicians, expert in leading creative music projects for all ages & levels of ability.

Are you interested in joining the NYJC’s 15th Birthday Ambassadors Scheme?

Places are offered from a selection process comprising an application form, short interview and completion of a DBS check. All places are free.

Many of the Ambassadors Scheme’s 36 graduates are now regularly supporting NYJC regional and national programme of work.

Application deadline: 5pm on Monday 7 March 2022.

Ambassadors Seminar Day 1 (Online)
Observations from 20 March. Artistic Director & one senior teaching artist introduce ambassadors to NYJC’s bespoke pedagogy, artistic programme, curriculum, online resources, menu of teaching activities & lesson plans & streamed repertoire. Peer teaching task. Preparation & homework for Young Musicians Workshop Day on 3 April (including co-leading a warm-up session & leading an observed solo teaching task).

3 April

Young Musicians Workshop Day 4 @ Kings Place
Co-leading warm up, support teaching & leading an observed solo teaching task delivered to young musicians. Homework set for Seminar Day 2.

27 April

Ambassadors Seminar Day 2 (Online)
Observations from 3 April. Generating inspirational lesson plans & helpful resources for leading improvised music & composition workshops. Preparing 30-minute lesson plan as homework for Young Musicians Workshop Day on 8 May.

8 May

Young Musicians Workshop Day 5 @ Kings Place
Teaching practice: Delivering 30-minute workshop lesson plan (observed by combo tutor & peers) & co-teaching with lead tutors & reviewing the end of workshop day “sharing” Homework set for Seminar Day 3.

23 May

Ambassadors Seminar Day 3 (Online)
Observations from 8 May. Review lesson plans & itinerary for Young Musicians Workshop Day 6 & Further homework for 3 July.

3 July

Young Musicians Day 6 @ Kings Place
Includes formal end of year concert. Each Ambassador leads an entire 60-minute workshop session, observes peers & reviews concert. Further homework for 18 July.

18 July

Ambassadors Seminar Day 4: Graduation Day @ Kings Place and Briefing RE: Future NYJC Opportunities
Including leading creative workshops for NYJC 15th Birthday Summer School (14th–20th August 22), Short Course (18th-21st August 22), Birthday Festival outreach days (16th -17th August 22); leading effective Professional Development sessions for conferences & inset days & co-leading NYJC’s network of regional workshop Sundays from September 2022 onwards.
